A commission that was made for a wine
drinking couple who had two teenage children. The desire was to
get all of the cans of soda and beer out of the fridge, and to
have a place where they could keep their week day white wines
and store the reds along with the necessary glasses.
The side panels and
shelf edges are spalted maple. A rare and unique wood that is
hard to find. The spalting results from fungi as it invades
dying wood. To get the spalt you must stop the decay and
preserve the wood. The fungus creates incredible patterns and
lines and each panel is like a work of art, or Rorschach
painting.
The piece is so named for the curving shape of the top.
Materials: Walnut, Spalted Maple
