The move to its current location at 1609 N. Franklin St. occurred after a year of renovating the 100-year-old building.  The new storefront location features the latest designs, current sculptural pieces and sample work of Franklin Street’s products.

Founder Bios: Carl Johnson & Alison Swann-Ingram

Carl and Alison, the owners and founders of Franklin St. Fine Woodwork, have worked together professionally since 2003 and merged their businesses – Swann Woodwork and Artisan’s Workshop – in 2009 to reflect their joint collaborations.

Alison Swann-Ingram, is a school taught (OCAC.edu) designer and creator who grew up in England. Alison pushes the boundaries between fine and functional art by creating furniture and carvings that meld the harsh beauty of life with a sculptural design approach.  Using materials such as fire salvaged cherry and uniquely figured woods, her work heightens and reveals the connection to the metaphysical aspects of life.

Alison has traveled and worked throughout the world, as a shepherdess in Southern France, rock climbing instructor in North Wales, explorer in Northern Chile and Au Pair in Switzerland.

Carl Johnson is a master craftsman with a life time of experience in stand-alone furniture.  The process of building a fine piece of furniture is something that he easily relates to after thirty years of regulating the development of buildings and structures for the City of Tampa.  A native of Tampa, Carl has studied with master craftsmen such as Marc Adams, Chris Glocnour and Michael Fortune.  Carl’s work has recently been shown at galleries such as Florida Craftsmen, Artful Soul and Willow Arts.

Both owners, while different in approach, have a deep, abiding commitment to their artisanal craft and are uncompromising in their approach.

Process: Each piece is designed to create a signature iconic look for the client. The design is prototyped then moved through the milling, joinery and finishing processes.  The final product is the result of many decisions that the customer may never see but which will be appreciated in the generations to come.   Each piece has a lifetime warranty.

Philosophy:  To make works of such unique design and quality that each one changes our clients' feelings about furniture and adds new elements of beauty and comfort to their homes and lives.
